"I’ve been on the lookout for a facial oil to add to my skin care routine for some time now."
As a lover of natural and organic products, the Affinity Organics Rose & Frankincense Facial Oil was the next on my product radar.
I’ve struggled with my skin throughout my teenage years and well into my 20s.
Most of the time, I have an oily complexion which is prone to breakouts and clogged pores. However, my battle with spots has lead to periods of dehydrated and irritated skin, thanks to the use of harsh acne-fighting treatments.
This means I’m constantly on the lookout for products which will help to balance, moisturise and soothe my complicated complexion. For me, the key is to find products which will bring me these benefits, without leading to a breakout. And let me tell you, it becomes a tricky task.
Could Affinity Organics facial oil be my skin saviour?
The ingredients:
The Affinity Organics Rose & Frankincense Facial Oil is a ‘deeply nourishing, nutrient-rich formula that contains organic rose otto known to soothe and regenerate’.
As soon as I read that the oil contains rose otto, I was excited. I’ve heard that rose otto has incredible benefits for the skin. It’s said to help reduce the appearance of scars, encourage a more even skin tone, and even help to relieve inflammation. As someone with acne prone skin, these are some of the key attributes which I want in my skin care products.
The product also contains ‘organic frankincense to tone and refresh the skin’ as well as ‘Omegas 3, 6 and 9 and Vitamin A, C, & E’. Frankincense is like an elixir for skin. With the ability to strengthen, prevent aging, reduce the appearance of scars, and promote regeneration of healthy cells, I’m interested to see what it can do for my problematic skin.
The skin is meant to love omega fatty acids, too. They help with hydration, redness and sensitivity, environmental damage, anti-aging and more. I’m keen to try anything which helps keep my skin strong and help prevent premature wrinkles, so this seems like a great ingredient for me too.
The packaging:
As soon as I opened my package and saw the beautiful packaging, I felt like a queen. 👑👑👑
The oil comes in a simple white box with a gold font, and a minimalistic, elegant feel. The box lists the essential information such as ingredients and directions for use. The bottle itself is frosted glass with a green tint and gold details. It feels and looks luxurious - this is a product which will you’ll want to display on your dressing table! There’s a generous 35ml of product, meaning the product should last a while.
The product:
The directions for use state to: ‘gently massage 1-2 pumps to face and neck daily for an unsurpassed glow’. I decided to use the oil each evening before bed, to let it get to work while I’m asleep. I cleansed well, toned, and then added 2 pumps of oil to my face, spending some time massaging it into my skin.
Usually, I don’t enjoy the feeling of oils on my skin. I tend to find them sticky and sometimes a little uncomfortable. This time, though, I found the oil sunk into my skin relatively quickly and didn’t leave a greasy film behind - which is a huge plus! The product smelt lovely, too. It has a fresh, delicate scent which isn’t too overpowering.
My skin felt moisturised and comfortable immediately after applying the product, and I found it particularly soothing on patches of skin which were slightly dry from using acne-treatment products. It gives a serious glow to the skin, too - without looking shiny.
But the most impressive thing about the product was how my skin looked in the morning. I tend to have lots of redness on my cheeks, nose, and chin, but after using the oil overnight, it had decreased significantly. I also noticed the breakout I had on my jawline seemed to disappear quicker than it usually would - which is probably thanks to the oil’s anti-inflammatory ingredients.
After using the oil for a week, I saw a significant improvement in my skin. I even felt my skin was becoming less oily, as if the product was helping to balance out my skin and help avoid dehydration from the acne treatments I use. I no longer have any problems with dry patches, and although I still get my usual breakouts, using this oil seems to help calm them down.
Worth it?
"After trying and testing the Affinity Organics Rose Otto & Frankincense Facial Oil, it’s clear that it’s a worthwhile everyday skin care product.
For oily and acne-prone skin like mine, the quality ingredients in the oil can seriously help to rebalance, calm and soothe your problem skin.
The oil is 100% organic, suitable for sensitive skin and full of incredible ingredients which would benefit any skin type - you should try it, too!"
